Reconnect to Your Body After Birth!

Reconnect to Your Body After Birth!

Most mamas complain of feeling heaviness, lethargy, and exhaustion after giving birth. And because pregnancy can really take a toll on women, many mamas feel uncomfortable in their new bodies.  There is a new relationship that needs to occur. Parts of the body don’t look, feel or work the same.

Having a movement practice that is consistent and loving is important for the health of a mother on all levels~ physical, emotional and spiritual.

Movement options are plentiful~ daily walks, going to the gym, hiking, dancing, yoga, aerobic class.  Personally, I have found a lot of healing from yoga and dance.  These practices allow for an opportunity for personal expression and can be enjoyed with other women or alone. Also, I have been able to do these practices with my baby. Staying connected with their babies while doing a movement practice can be key for many mothers.

Yogic practices are great for helping women find their core again. Many women suffer from rectus diastis or weak abdominals and pelvic floor. Working with a teacher or coach that specifically supports women with these issues is a great way to reconnect with your body and for many women build an even stronger connection with their bodies.

Starting a movement practice soon after giving birth is very important. If not, many women miss the opportunity to restore a gateway to stability in the body, and later they may find themselves hampered by weaknesses in the pelvic floor and abdominal wall.
Of course, there is a rest period that is essential for the mama to take after the birth. And it is always important to check with your midwife or doctor before you start back to an exercise regime.  Each mother will have a specific time that is perfect for her body.

Many women say that there is not enough time in the day to exercise. However, mama's health is so important for the family as a whole ~ if mama ain’t happy, ain't nobody happy. The mother can be the sole heart beat of a family. Keeping that ‘heartbeat’ pumping with vitality is essential. So call Wise Women at 541.772.2291 and register for my Mama Movement class. Your whole family will be glad you did!
