At our house, the days are full of super hero action. At any given moment we will be hanging out with Spider-man, Superman, Iron Man or Captain America. Every once in a while, Peter Parker hangs out with us, too. There are days that we don't see our dear son Aspen - only Spider-man.
Recently, I told my son as we were getting ready for preschool, that he wasn't able to wear his Spider-man costume to school. He immediately burst into tears saying, "How can I help people? If I don't wear my Spider-man costume I can't help people." Earlier that week, his preschool teacher said that he was so helpful in class. When something needed to be done, he was there in a flash. Someone had an owie, he was there making them feel better. He equated helping people to being a super hero. And when I was having a sad moment, Spider-Man said, "Don't worry; I'll get Iron Man (aka my husband). He will make it all better."
All this super hero action got me thinking about the holidays and how we often "try" to do everything and be Super Man/Wonder Woman. What if we changed our mindset about being a super hero? What if a super hero didn't mean doing everything perfectly, but being present, helping others and taking care of OURSELVES. What if during this holiday season we became Super-Take-Care-Of-Myself-Girl or Batman Big Breath?
Take a moment and think about what is truly needed to show up in Superbness! Super Man isn't exhausted! He is Go-To-Bed-Early-So-I-Can-Rock-the-World-Man.
